Olfasense explores potential for 3D printing
The emerging production technology of additive manufacturing – also known as 3D printing – offers the possibility to realize sophisticated designs. In addition, components can often be produced faster and more cost-effectively than with conventional manufacturing techniques.
It is no surprise that Olfasense is also looking at the use of 3D printing to complement existing manufacturing processes, as we have identified some promising opportunities. In order to systematically analyze the potential of the application of additive manufacturing, a plastic 3D printer was installed at our production and development site. Watch the video for a glimpse.
Our aim is to find out whether the new technology could provide greater operational freedom in development and production, as 3D printers show their strengths particularly in small series and prototypes, in terms of saving manufacturing time and material usage.
However, the technology will offer us only a real added value if the 3D printed products intended to be used in Olfasense devices will meet the stringent requirements regarding the release of odours and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Which specific applications are actually feasible will be explored by our development team in the coming months.
